PeLCD Displays (Sunlight Readable LCD)
Horizon's peLCD (photon-enhanced LCD) technology blends the characteristics of highly transmissive displays with that of reflective type LCD technology. The peLCD technology eliminates the need for additional backlighting through the utilization of reflective layers placed behind the glass LCD screen and in front of the backlights. Horizon's proprietary reflective stack allows the sun to go through the glass and then bounce back to provide additional lighting for the display. Horizon also enhances the transmissive throughput of existing liquid crystal displays to achieve a greater level of brightness in all environments. In some cases, this can serve to double the native nit count of a standard TFT display.
The end result of the peLCD process is a flat panel display that can be viewed in virtually any condition of ambient light (including direct sun) without disturbing the viewing angle or color native to the original LCD display. This is achieved with no additional heat generation or power consumption. The peLCD technology is available in all sizes from 1.5” up to 29".
